Quota Reform: Eden College student on 3-day remand under ICT Act

A Dhaka court on Thursday granted a three-day remand of an Eden College student in a case filed under Information and Communication and Technology (ICT) Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge Kazi Kamrul Islam passed the order after rejecting the bail appeal of the accused, Lutfur Nahar Luna Sarkar, also a joint convener of Bangladesh General Students' Rights Protection Council, platform that leads the ongoing quota reform movement.

Earlier, the investigation officer of the case, Md Rafikul Islam, an inspector of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit(CTTU) sought five-day remand to interrogate the quota reform movement leader.

The case was filed against her on August 5 with Ramna Police Station, according to UNB.

On early Wednesday, police arrested from Sirajganj, Lutfur Nahar Luna Sarkar, 21, daughter of Abdul Kuddus of Baoikhola village in Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj and a 2nd year student of Social Science Department of Eden College.

On August 12, students seeking quota reform threatened to go for tougher movement if their three-point demand is not met by August 31.

They came up with the ultimatum from a rally in front of Shahbagh National Museum.

Their demands are: Immediate release of the activists, who were detained during movement, from jail, punishment of the attackers involved in assaulting teachers and students and publish a gazette notification on quota reform in the civil service in line with their earlier five-point demand.
