A Dhaka court has placed Asif Mahtab, a former lecturer at BRAC University, and Arif Sohel, a student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) and a leader of the quota reform movement, on six-day remand in a case filed over vandalising and setting Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area on fire on July 18.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Moynul Islam passed the order on Monday as the Detective Branch of police (DB) produced them before the court earlier in the day and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each.

The DB picked up Arif from his house in the Ambagan area, adjacent to Jahangirnagar University (JU), around 1 am on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Asif Mahtab was picked up by the members of the Detective Branch from his house in the capital's Uttara.
