RAB detains 27 drug suspects in Rajshahi

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 27 more suspects in Rajshahi on Wednesday and they were sentenced to different terms of jail each by mobile court on charge of drug abuse.

On tips-off, teams of the elite anti-crime force conducted raids in different areas of Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Natore and Joypurhat districts and arrested 43 people on charge of their involvement in drug addiction and trading.

Two of them were fined Tk 3,000 and regular cases were recorded against 14 others.

The RAB sources said Thursday, the team also seized 901 grams of marijuana, 30 yaba pills, 356 bottles of phensidyl and 500 litres of local liquor and some other drugs-consuming instruments from their possessions.

Later, the arrestees were produced before a mobile court. After examining the evidences, the court sentenced 27 of them to jail.

Nure Alam, Assistant Superintendent of Police working at RAB, said different courts sent more than 283 drug addicts to jail after found guilty during last 11 days, BSS reported.

Similar types of anti-drive operation will be conducted in the days ahead for the greater interest of protecting youths from the deadly drug-addiction, he added.
