Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested one human trafficker - Golam Mollah (39) - for his alleged involvement in alluring people of sending to Italy at a nominal cost.
Senior assistant director of RAB-2 Khan Asif Topu said the arrestee and his cohorts were involved in human trafficking activities for a long time. They cheated people by alluring them of sending to Italy at a low cost, and took passports from the intending candidates. The gang then confined them in hotels and forcibly realised money from their families.
Brother of a victim, who was deceived by this human trafficking gang, lodged a complaint with Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station on March 23. He said the arrestee Golam Mollah and his accomplices took money several times, promising to send the victim to Italy.
He was sent to Libya first and was assured by the arrestee that he would be sent to Italy from Libya. But he was not sent to Italy.
A team of the elite force carried out a drive in Kamrangirchar area in the city on Wednesday night and arrested Golam Mollah.
