A meeting between the Ministry of Railways and striking railway running staff concluded without reaching a solution at Kamalapur Railway Station on Tuesday.
The meeting, led by Secretary Fahimul Islam, lasted about an hour, but union representatives departed around 2:30 pm without speaking to reporters.
Acting President of Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Shramik Karmachari Union, Saidur Rahman, later confirmed there was “no update” from the meeting.
Countrywide train operations have been halted since early Tuesday when the Bangladesh Railway Running Staff and Workers Employees Association launched an indefinite strike demanding post-retirement benefits.
Station Master Md Anwar Hossain reported no trains have left Kamalapur since midnight.
The ministry advised that passengers would receive refunds for cancelled trips.
Trains from Chattogram, Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet, and other major cities have also ceased operations, although those that departed before midnight are continuing to their destinations.
