A closed-door meeting convened by Railway Advisor Fouzul Kabir Khan with ministry officials, railway officials, and leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal (JSD) ended without a resolution to the ongoing running staff strike.

A source at the meeting said that no solution came out of the meeting.

The meeting, held at the Rail Bhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday, began at approximately 4:50 pm but excluded representatives from the striking running staff.

The JSD was represented at the meeting by a delegation led by its Chief Coordinator, Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas.

Earlier in the day, Railway Secretary Md Fahimul Islam and Bangladesh Railway Director General Md Afzal Hossain held discussions at Kamalapur Station.

A JSD delegation, led by its Chief Coordinator Shimul Biswas, attended the meeting.

Two leaders of the running staff and workers' union who briefly engaged with officials at the meeting but left it without reaching an agreement on ending the strike.

The strike, which began in the early hours of Monday for an indefinite period of time, has disrupted railway services across the country.

The running staffers are demanding the full implementation of wages as per the Railway 1931 GS Rule, which had been in effect until 2021.

A locomotive master at Kamalapur Station, speaking to The Financial Express (FE), said that this strike is unrelated to the JSD and reiterated that the workers are committed to having their demands fulfilled.
