Bangladesh Railway is going to attach one luggage carriage to each inter-district train to transport agricultural and other goods.
Rail Minister Nurul Islam will inaugurate the service at Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com in its Facebook page.
The carriages will be attached to trains running from Dhaka to Jamalpur, Dewanganj, Mohonganj, Kishoreganj, Chattogram, Sylhet, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, and the trains running on the Rangpur route, the Sylhet-Chattogram route, and the Mymensingh-Chattogram route, the authorities said.
The carrying charge for goods from Dhaka to Jamalpur has been fixed at Tk 1.68 per kg, Tk 1.88 per kg for the Dhaka-Dewanganj route, Tk 1.82 per kg for the Dhaka-Mohonganj route, Tk 1.46 for the Kishoreganj route, Tk 2.36 per Kg for the Dhaka-Chattogram route and Tk 2.22 per kg for the Dhaka-Sylhet route.
As many as 125 luggage vans will be attached to the trains initially, said Bangladesh Railway. Among them, 75 will be attached to the metre gauge line and 50 to the broad gauge line. At least 10 air-conditioned vans will be available at the broad gauge line and 16 for the metre gauge line.
The authorities said they have already attached 18 luggage carriages to trains and have 50 carriages in total. They will receive the rest soon, they said.
