Moderate to heavy rainfall in different parts of capital Dhaka on Wednesday gave city dwellers a respite from scorching heat at the onset of summer.
Rain also caused sufferings for people of different walks of life as many parts of the city remained submerged for a while.
The rainfall began in the afternoon and continued for several hours with frequent pauses.
Welcoming the rain, a resident of the city's Panthapath area, Khorshed Ahmed, said the rain had been a respite from prevailing heat.
"The weather had started getting warm gradually, while the rain brought a soothing comfort," he said.
The day-time temperature remained high causing difficulties in moving towards destinations and accomplishing different tasks, he said.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) predicted occurrence of such rainfall across the country for the next couple of days.
Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallik told journalists that there would be frequent rainfalls.
"It is raining all over the country. It will be going on sporadically with varied level of downpour this time and the temperature will also be bearable," he said.
The regular weather bulletin of the BMD said that some places in Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions may experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds on Thursday.
Some 31 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in three hours from 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Yet, some parts of the city witnessed incessant rainfall after the period.
People returning home from office faced problems due to the rain in the afternoon, as many did not go out with umbrellas.
