Rain brings relief to Dhaka residents

A bout of summer rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds brought much-needed relief to Dhaka residents on Wednesday after days of sweltering heat.

The rains, which began around 3am, continued intermittently till the filing of this report at 5:50 pm, offering respite from the oppressive temperature that had gripped the capital in recent days, reports UNB.

Commuters faced difficulties during the downpour due to a shortage of public transport, while many others took to the streets and rooftops to enjoy the rainy weather.

The sky remained overcast since morning, creating a cooler and more pleasant atmosphere.

According to the meteorological department, rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with hails at isolated places.

Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
