A significant cooling has occurred all over Bangladesh with rains bringing relief in some areas.
The heatwave that was sweeping over 53 out of the 64 districts on Friday has substantially eased, now impacting only nine districts, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said.
Meteorologist Omar Farooque said a low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal by May 23, reports bdnews24.com.
“The system is moving towards India’s Odisha, but it's too early to predict whether it will affect Bangladesh directly, but it could approach the coastal areas by May 27,” he said.
The trend of rain is likely to continue until May 28, but temperatures may rise during the formation of the low pressure, Omar said.
Temperatures may fall slightly on Sunday, with rain likely in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, as well as sporadic showers in Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Mymensingh divisions, the department said in a bulletin.
The mild heatwave currently sweeping Gopalgonj, Rajshahi, Noakhali, Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jashore, Satkhira, Patuakhali, and Bhola is expected to subside as a result.
The highest temperature nationwide was recorded at 38.2 degrees Celsius in Mongla, with Dhaka experiencing a cooler 31.4 degrees Celsius.
