Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Shahin Sultana has alleged that Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leader Imran Ahmed threatened her with mob action during a district law and order meeting on Sunday.
“We feel threatened. Our staff are scared,” she was quoted by Bangla-language daily Prothom Alo as saying.
The dispute relates to an April incident in Taraganj, where a doctor was allegedly assaulted by members of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
A case was later filed against the accused, including Tahmid Sarkar, the local coordinator.
A member of the law and order committee said that at the meeting, Imran, district convener of the Student Movement, demanded the case be withdrawn, saying, “If it isn’t, we’ll act—publicly, as a mob.”
Denying issuing any threat, he said that he just protested against injustice.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Robiul Faisal, who chaired the meeting, said no threats were made and there was no argument.
“I don’t know why these rumours are spreading,” he said.
