Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque has urged the developed countries to come forward to ensure climate justice aiming to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change and sustain agricultural production and food security.
He made the call while speaking at the first ministerial meeting of the Agriculture Innovation Mission for Climate (AIM for Climate) at the World Expo in Dubai, UAE.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United States jointly arranged the meeting, reports BSS citing a ministry press release.
Dr Razzaque said the International Mother Language Day is being celebrated today (Monday) while the people of Bangladesh had sacrificed their lives for the right to speak in their mother tongue and for establishing justice.
"On this day, I call upon the developed countries to work for the establishment of climate justice," he said.
He said the developed nations should invest more in developing climate-smart agriculture technologies and food systems, and cooperate with the developing countries to this end.
Dr Razzaque, also the Awami League presidium member, said Bangladesh's contribution to global climate change is very negligible but the country is being affected more due to climate change.
"Our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading the Climate Vulnerable Forum. She termed the climate issue a global emergency," he said.
In Bangladesh, the agriculture minister said, the incumbent government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been working relentlessly to address the climate change impacts.
Agriculture ministers and representatives from around 30 countries participated in the meeting.
