Registration for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) pass card for metro rail travel has resumed after a two-day pause.
According to bdnews24.com, the update was shared on Sunday via the official Facebook page of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).
DMTCL Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rauf told bdnews24.com that MRT pass renewal and registration resumed on Sunday.
"We received 20,000 cards today that arrived in the country a week ago, and they will be available at stations starting [on Monday]," he said.
DMTCL had announced on Friday that "the card registration and re-issuance facility will remain closed till Nov 7”.
Currently, metro rail operates from 7:10am to 9:40pm from Saturday to Thursday and from 3:30pm to 9:40pm on Fridays.
There are two ticket types for metro rail passengers: the MRT Pass for long-term use and the single-journey ticket.
Passengers can travel using an MRT pass, which can be recharged with up to Tk 10,000, allowing for continuous travel as long as the card has funds. Using the MRT pass provides a 10 per cent fare discount, with fares automatically deducted at the exit punch machine.
Alternatively, passengers may opt for a single journey ticket, which is inserted into the machine at the exit to complete the journey.
