The Ministry of Defense has proposed to rename 16 Sangsthas, institutions and establishments under the jurisdiction of Bangladesh Army changing the previous ones given after the names of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina or her family members or people involved with her government.
The proposal was made following a decision of the advisory council of the interim government on January 16, 2025 as a sequel to the July-August Uprising of 2024.
According to the Ministry of Defense, ‘Jamuna Nibas’ is the proposed name of Bangabandhu Cantonment in Bhuapur, Tangail.
The name of the ‘Valiant Freedom Fighter Abdul Hamid Cantonment’ has been proposed to rename as the ‘Mithamain Cantonment’ in Kishoreganj district.
The name of Sheikh Hasina Cantonment in Lebukhali of Barishal will be changed to “Barishal Cantonment”.
‘Padma Cantonment’ is the proposed name of Sheikh Russell Cantonment in Jajira of Shariatpur District.
Bangabandhu Complex (with sculpture), located at BMA in Bhatiari, will be named as ‘BMA Academic Complex’.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Battery Complex (Complex-1 and Complex-2), located at AC&S, Halishahar, has been proposed to rename as ‘Artillery Center and School’
‘Mujib Regiment Artillery’ at Ramur Cantonment of Cox’s Bazar has been proposed to rename as 1 Field Regiment Artillery.
The ‘Bangladesh Military Museum’ will be the new name of Adhoc Bangabandhu Military Museum, in Dhaka’s Bojoy Sarani.
The Bangabandhu Composite Military Farm at Charmontaz will be renamed as Composite Military Farm at Jazira
The name of the ‘Bangabandhu Museum’ will now be the ‘Independence Museum’ in the Dhaka Cantonment.
Bangabandhu Cantonment Public School and College at Bhuapur in Tangail has been proposed to rename as‘Jamuna Cantonment Public School and College’.
The name of Sheikh Russell Cantonment Public School and College in Narayanganj Jolshiri will now be changed to Adamjee Cantonment Public School and College, Jolshiri.
Sheikh Russell Cantonment Public School and College, Jazira, Shariatpur will be renamed as Padma Cantonment Public School and College.
The proposed name of Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Public School and College in Lebukhali of Barishal is Barishal Cantonment Public School and College.
The proposed name of Sheikh Kamal Complex (with Sculpture) of Chittagong Cantonment is ‘EBRC Academy Complex’. Mujib Battery Road, located at Halishahar, has been proposed to rename “Golandaz Road”.
