‘Robber’ killed in Gaibandha ‘gunfight’

A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Sakoa under Palashbari upazila in Gaibandha early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Shamsul Haque, a resident of Satarpara area.

Police arrested Shamsul on Saturday afternoon, said Mohammad Shahriar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.

Later, police conducted a drive along with Shamsul at around 2:00 am.

When the team reached the area, his cohorts attacked police and opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, triggering the gunfight, UNB reported.

The gunfight left Shamdul injured with bullets.

Later, the injured was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Six policemen were also injured in the gunfight, the OC said.
