A robbery incident took place at midnight on Friday (February 28) in Pabna’s Santhia, where robbers blocked at least 40 vehicles, including buses and trucks, by felling trees on the road. The incident occurred around 1:30 am on the Pabna-Santhia road, near the Chhechaniya Bridge.

According to police and local sources, the robbers initially obstructed a cargo truck by placing tree trunks on the road. Within a short time, nearly 40 vehicles, including buses, trucks, private cars, and microbuses, got trapped.

Around 40 to 50 robbers armed with weapons such as sickles, machetes, knives, and daggers began robbing the vehicles one by one. They even vandalised some vehicles as the people inside delayed opening the gates. They physically assaulted the drivers and passengers, stealing mobile phones, cash, and other valuable items. The entire ordeal lasted for about an hour.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station, Saidur Rahman, said that police were dispatched immediately upon receiving the report. Although the precise number of vehicles affected cannot be confirmed, several vehicles were reportedly robbed.

Authorities will take appropriate action upon receiving formal complaints, the OC said.
