The Rajshahi University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has urged the authorities to hold the Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RAKSU), hall union and senate elections after the Durga Puja.

The demand was made on Monday by Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir, vice-president of the RU JCD unit and the organisation’s nominated vice-president candidate for RAKSU, while speaking to reporters at the university’s Transport Market.

Abir said that while the campus had been vibrant only two days earlier, student presence had now thinned as many had returned home ahead of the Puja. “We want a fair election with the highest possible voter turnout,” he said.

He called on the election commission to consider the situation carefully. “If you take into account the pulse of the students, you will see the need to hold the polls after the Puja,” Abir added.

According to the schedule, the RAKSU election is currently set for 25 September.
