The Rajshahi University (RU) Press Club celebrated its 40th anniversary on Thursday through colourful and day-long programmes.
At 9:30am, RU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Saleh Hasan Naqib inaugurated the anniversary events though cutting a cake at the Press Club office. A vibrant procession then paraded through the main roads of the campus, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Later, at 11:00am, a discussion titled "Media in Post-July Bangladesh: Freedom, Ethics and Responsibility" was held at the university's Senate Building.
At the programme, RU Press Club president Monir Hossain Mahin said, "The Rajshahi University Press Club is an emotional space for me. After overcoming many challenges, our beloved organisation has stepped into its 40th year. We tried to mark the milestone with grandeur. We hope to continue promoting objective journalism that contributes to the development of the university."
Speaking as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib praised the role of the club: "The RU Press Club has consistently highlighted the university through objective reporting. I congratulate them on completing four decades. I hope they will continue to uphold professionalism and play a leading role in the university's progress."
The discussion that followed the procession was presided over by Press Club President Monir Hossain Mahin.
Daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman attended it as the chief discussant.
Among others, present were RU Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Main Uddin, Pro-VC (Academic) Dr Md Farid Uddin Khan, and Chief Advisor of RU Press Club Prof Dr Fazlul Haque.
