A Rajshahi court has granted a one-day remand to interrogate former husband of Rajshahi University's female student, who was abducted recently and then rescued.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman also placed a microbus driver on remand for same period in a case filed over the abduction.
Before passing the order on Sunday, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) produced Sohel Rahman, former husband of the victim student, and microbus driver Jahidul Islam before it.
RMP assistant commissioner Ifte Khayer Alam said Sub-Inspector Ismail Hossain of Motihar Police Station is the investigation officer of the case.
Besides, the court also sent Sohel's father Joynal Abedin to jail.
Earlier on Friday, a final year female student of Bangla department of RU was abducted from in front of Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Hall of the university around 8:15 am.
The student is a resident of Tapashi Rabeya Hall. She was heading to department along with her two classmates to attend at final year examination.
Following the incident, the student's father Amzad Hossain filed an abduction case with Motihar Police Station on Friday evening.
He accused five persons including the student's former husband Sohel Rana and Sohel Rana's father Joyal Abedin.
After filing the case, Police arrested Joybal Abdin from his residence at Patnitala village of Noagoan district.
Later, a team of RMP rescued the female student and her former husband Sohel Rana with the help of Dhaka police from the capital on Saturday.
According to UNB, RMP police commissioner Mabubur Rahman addressed a press conference on Sunday morning over the incident.
He said a special team of RMP rescued the abducted student from a marriage registry office at Rayer Bazar in the capital on Saturday.
"Police arrested former husband Sohel Rana and the microbus driver," the police official said.
According to Mabubur Rahman, Sohel married her off in December last year.
Later, she divorced Sohel two months ago.
As it needs more than three months to mature the divorce, Sohel abducted the female student to force her to withdraw the divorce petition.
