Tasin Khan, a former coordinator of Students Against Discrimination (SAD), will contest for the vice-president (VP) post at the RUCSU election from the Sarbojonin Chhatra Sangsad panel.
Mahayer Islam, former RU coordinator of SAD, announced the panel at a press briefing on the campus on Thursday. Rajan Al Ahmed has been nominated for general secretary (GS) and Mahayer for assistant general secretary (AGS).
The panel also includes Sheet Kumar Orang (sports secretary), Amit Tanchanga (cultural affairs secretary), Md. Laden (asst. cultural affairs secretary), Samsad Jahan (women's affairs secretary), Nadia Haque Mithi (asst. women's affairs secretary), Sarowar Jahan Nahid (information and research secretary), Munna Howlader (asst. publicity and publication secretary), Topha (science and technology secretary), Shariful Islam (asst. science and technology secretary), Gopal Roy (debating and literary secretary), Ar Rafi Siraji Antor (asst. debating and literary secretary), Uzzal Tanchangya (environment and social welfare secretary), and S M Rijon (asst. environment and social welfare secretary).
For the post of executive members, the nominated candidates are Md. Ferdous Sharif, Imam Hossain, S M Hafizul Islam, and Abdullah Al Muaj.
In addition, the panel's three candidates - Tasin Khan, Mahair Islam, and Gopal Roy - will contest as student representatives in the RU Senate.
Speaking at the panel launch, Tasin Khan said, "We have announced a full panel. Our priority is to keep the panel free from political influence. RUCSU must not be turned into a tool for promoting political ideologies. Rather, it should remain a platform for realising students' genuine demands."
She added, "We carefully considered the leadership qualities and abilities of each candidate while forming the panel. We firmly believe that our balanced and capable team will gain the trust of students in the election."
Mahayer Islam remarked, "RUCSU is the common platform for all students. Our aim is to establish a non-discriminatory, politically independent students' union where every student feels represented."
In recent weeks, multiple panels backed by different political and ideological groups have announced their line-ups for the RUCSU election. However, the newly formed panel, led by former SAD coordinators, is being viewed by many as fresh and distinct.
