Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the Jatiyo Nagorik Committee and a prominent leader of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, was injured in a private car accident in the Dhaka University area on Wednesday night.
The accident occurred around 9:15 pm in front of the British Council in the Dhaka University area, according to a UNB report.
Sarjis, who was travelling to Bangla Motor, said that while driving past the British Council, a child suddenly ran in front of his car.
In an attempt to avoid hitting the child, Alam reportedly slammed on the brakes, causing the private car to hit a road divider.
After the accident, Alam received initial treatment at the eye department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Shuvo Howlader, a student from the university’s Amar Ekushey Hall, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and immediately rushed Sarjis to the hospital.
Howlader said that Sarjis had a cut on the side of his left eye and a head injury.
Jabir Hossain, a doctor at the Dhaka Medical College Emergency Department, said that Sarjis received a stitch for the injury but was in stable condition.
