Sarjis Alam, chief organiser of the National Citizens' Committee, has praised the Islami Chhatrashibir for their active participation and support during the July-August uprising in Bangladesh.
Speaking at a gathering of Shibir members on Tuesday at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, Sarjis emphasised the organisation’s significant role as an ally in street demonstrations, providing guidance, and taking critical actions.
Reflecting on the uprising, he said, "No one can suppress the truth indefinitely. It is only a matter of time before the truth prevails."
The former coordinator of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement accused ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of systematically targeting perceived threats over the past 16 years. He alleged, "Anyone considered a potential threat was labelled and subjected to blame games. We have witnessed innocent individuals, including scholars and clerics, being incarcerated, tortured, and even killed under her directives."
Sarjis also claimed that the survival of organisations like Islami Chhatrashibir, along with numerous influential figures in Bangladesh, had been made increasingly difficult by Hasina's administration.
He lauded the youth of the country for their moral consciousness, which he said had led to the ousting of what he described as a "fascist murderer."
Sarjis also urged Chhatrashibir to strive for maximum public acceptance through their work and dedication.
