Md Sarwar Alam, a former information cadre officer, has been appointed as the press secretary to the president on a two-year contract.
The Ministry of Public Administration confirmed his appointment on Monday, reports bdnews24.com.
He succeeds Joynal Abedin, another contractual officer from the information cadre, in the role.
A notice from the Ministry of Public Administration said: "In accordance with Section 49 of the Government Services Act, 2018, Md Sarwar Alam has been appointed as the press secretary to His Excellency the President on a contractual basis for a period of two years from the date of joining on the condition that he renounces any other profession, business or employment relationship with any government, semi-government or private institution or organisation."
Sarwar was the deputy press secretary to then prime minister Khaleda Zia during the BNP-Jamaat alliance government.
