The authorities of Sylhet Agriculture University (SAU) have suspended all classes and examinations for Sunday following the death of one of their students in a road accident.

Faisal Khalilur Rahman, assistant director of Public Relations, confirmed the information.

The ill-fated student, Wasim Afnan, 22, was a 4th-year student of biotechnology and genetic engineering department of the university.

Afnan was crushed to death by a bus after he was pushed off by the helper at Sherpur in Moulvbazar Sadar upazila of Moulvibazar district on Saturday afternoon, reports UNB.

After the incident, students of the university took to the streets and staged demonstrations at the Sylhet bus terminal in South Surma protesting the death of their fellow at night.

They also announced to boycott classes on Sunday and observe it as the mourning day.

The namaz-e-janaza of Afnan, son of of M Abu Zahed Mahbub and Dr Mina Parvin, will be held at their ancestral home at Rudra village in Habiganj's Nabiganj upazila at noon.

Later, the students will announce next course of action.

Meanwhile, police arrested bus helper Mashuk Ali, 40, son of Daulat Ali of Teghoria area, from Singchapoir village in Chhatok upazila of Sunamganj district at around 2:00am today.

On information, a team of Chhatok Police Station raided Mashuk's father-in-law's house and arrested him.

Later, the arrestee was handed over to Moulvibazar District police, said superintendent of Sunamganj Police Barkatullah Khan.
