The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court order that directed Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Swajan Paribahan to pay Tk 10 million in compensation to the family of deceased Titumir College student Rajib Hossain.
A three member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain came up with the order on Tuesday.
The SC also directed the High Court to form an independent committee to fix the compensation and to find out who's responsible for the accident.
The committee has been asked to submit its report by June 30, reports UNB..
On Monday, the SC deferred the passing of its order on two appeal petitions filed by BRTC and Swajan Paribahan.
Earlier on May 17, the SC fixed May 21 (Monday) to deliver its verdict after holding hearing on the petitions filed by BRTC and Swajan Paribahan.
Rajib Hossain, who lost his right hand after it got stuck between two buses at Bangla Motor in the city on April 3, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 17.
On May 8, the HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque issued an order to provide Tk 10 million as compensation to the family of Rajib Hossain, according to a bdnews24 report.
The High Court had directed owners of Swajan Paribahan to pay Tk 5 million and BRTC the rest.
