Season’s first nor’wester lashed the capital and elsewhere in the country on Sunday killing four people and disrupting normal life.

The nor‘wester hit the capital around 6:20pm with gusts of wind and rain causing sufferings for the city dwellers specially those who were going back to their houses from work.

It also caused power outage in different part of the city.

People, who were leaving Dhaka ahead of the lockdown, suffered a lot due to the sudden storm. Traffic was disrupted in some parts of city.

According to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), wind speed rose up to 64 kmph in Dhaka while it reached 62 kmph in Rajshahi and 48 kmph in Rajshahi.

In Gaibandhi, four people were killed after trees fell on them during the nor'wester.

The report on average rainfall could not be obtained till the filing of this report.

Officials at Met office told The Financial Express that similar nor’westers are likely to sweep throughout the country in the next one to two days.

Rains with hails at isolated places are likely to occur across the country including Dhaka on Sunday.

Talking to The Financial Express, Abdul Mannan, a BMD meteorologist said, rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally winds with hails are likely to occur across the country including Dhaka on Monday as well.

Apart from this, a mild heat wave is sweeping over the regions of Rajshahi, Pabna, Chuadanga, Kushtia & Rangamati and it may continue, he said.

The highest temperature was recorded 38.5 degrees Celsius at Sitakunda and Rangamat on Sunday while the lowest temperature was 16.5 degrees Celsius at Tetulia on Sunday, added Mr Mannan.

In its 24-hour forecast, the Met Office said day temperature may rise slightly and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

In its outlook for the next 72 hours, it said about little change.

The sun set at 6:15 pm on Sunday and will rise at 5:48 am on Monday in Dhaka.
