Section 144 imposed in Gopalganj following violent clashes over NCP rally

Section 144 has been imposed in Gopalganj to bring the situation under control following intense clashes and counter-attacks centring on a rally organised by the National Citizen Party (NCP).
The violence erupted around 2:45 pm on Wednesday (July 16), when the NCP convoy came under attack on their way back from the rally.
Sources said that activists from the banned Awami League and its affiliated student wing, Chhatra League, carried out the assault.
The city turned into a battleground as the conflict escalated.
Police and army opened fire to bring the situation under control. During the unrest, their vehicles also came under attack.
Following the incident, NCP leaders took shelter at the Gopalganj Circuit House.
