Seminar on ‘Physics Education in the Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels’ held

The inaugural session of the seminar titled "Physics Education in the Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels," organised by the Bangladesh Physical Society, was held on Saturday morning (November 30) at the Atomic Energy Centre, Dhaka.
The chief guest was Prof Dr M Aminul Islam, Special Assistant (State Minister) to the Chief Advisor, Ministry of Education, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
The event was chaired by Dr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, President of the Bangladesh Physical Society and Chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.
Vice President of Bangladesh Physical Society (BPS) Professor Dr A K M Akhter Hossain delivered the welcome address.
Following this, Dr Mohammad Shawkat Akbar, President of the BPS, delivered the presidential address.
He mentioned that our educational system has faced various problems due to the introduction of new curricula without taking proper preparation and this results the failure to assess the potential impact of these changes.
He emphasised that the seminar on "Physics Education in the Secondary and Higher Secondary Levels" would play a significant role in resolving the current challenges in education.
He pointed out that at the secondary and higher secondary levels, students learn the fundamental concepts of science, particularly the laws of physics, which form the foundation for their future education and professional careers.
The BPS president also stressed the need for improving the quality of physics education for developing future scientists and engineers.
Chief Guest Prof Dr M Aminul Islam, Special Assistant (State Minister) to the Chief Advisor, delivered his valuable address during the inaugural session.
He engaged with the participants and guests, attentively listening to their opinions.
He stated that the current government is working towards improving the quality of education and that the education system will be reformed based on the feedback of teachers, researchers, educators, experts, and stakeholders.
He mentioned that efforts are being made to utilize the expertise of retired Bangladeshi scientists and researchers abroad for the country's development.
He added that they already started working on the development and overall progress on various levels of the education system under the leadership of the Chief Advisor of the interim government.
After the inaugural session, Professor Dr M Aminul Islam was present both in the technical sessions and panel discussion of the seminar.
He actively participated in the discussion in each session.
During the technical session, the speakers from different organisations shared valuable opinions and experiences on the challenges at the secondary and higher secondary levels, particularly on the process of textbook development and methods to improve quality.
The discussions among eminent educators, policymakers, researchers, and other relevant stakeholders are expected to provide guidance for the future direction of the country's education system.
It was expressed at the seminar that the discussions would open new horizons for the development of physics education in the country by ensuring an equitable and high-quality educational environment for students in such an important subject as physics.
The chief guest of the event mentioned that the current government will consider the issues recommended by the seminar.
At the conclusion of the event, Professor Dr Ratan Chandra Gosh expressed gratitude and thanked the chief guest and all attendees.
