Seven dengue patients die, record 1,623 hospitalised in 24 hours

Bangladesh reported seven deaths from dengue in 24 hours till Saturday morning while a record number of patients in a single day were admitted to different hospitals across the country.

As many as 1,623 dengue patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours as the dengue outbreak has taken an alarming turn, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the latest daily update, the total death toll from dengue hit 100 this year, the DGHS said.

Signalling a worrisome situation, it said among the hopspitalised patients, 1,168 were admitted to several hospitals in Dhaka.

A total of 19,454 dengue patients received treatment in various public and private hospitals in the country so far since January, DGHS said. Among them, 13,109 were admitted to the hospitals in Dhaka, it added.

Meanwhile, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) on Saturday continued its month-long anti-dengue drive and campaign. Its mobile courts conducted several drives and fined several houses and entities over Tk 0.98 million.

They found Aedes larvae on the premises of different entities in the capital.
