Two people have died in an explosion of a sewerage line that triggered a fire in the capital's Golapbagh.
The incident occurred on Monday night, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Iftekharul Islam said.
He said the cover of a manhole hit a person while two others were burnt in the fire at a shop and a house, reports bdnews24.com.
The person hit by the manhole cover and one of the burnt people died, the police officer said.
The two could not be identified immediately. The police officer suspects they were passersby.
The other burn victim, Abul Hasem, 25, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia at the hospital's police camp, quoting doctors, said 75 per cent of Hasem's body is burnt.
Jatrabarhi Police Station Inspector Tofail Ahmed said the fire crew doused the fire immediately after it originated at around 8:30pm.
