Assistant Professor Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan has resigned from the post of assistant proctor of Dhaka University.
She announced her resignation in a Facebook post on Monday morning.
She wrote in the post, "I have officially resigned from my position as the assistant proctor at the University of Dhaka.
In my 7 years of teaching career (2024), I have never had the desire to take on any administrative responsibility for a single moment.
During my time at BUP, Jagannath and Dhaka University, I never thought that I would ever take on any administrative responsibility.
But on Aug 28, 2024, when the proctor sir called me and said he wanted me as an assistant proctor, I was really excited.
I am a lecturer only, and even a smaller person, with such a big responsibility that usually only senior teachers get, I am in charge!!”
The teacher said, “On one hand, this was a new Bangladesh.
Many hopes, many dreams were found in all of our eyes.
If I can do something good for my country, my alma mater, what could be more fortunate than that! On top of that, my senior in the department – Sir, will I refuse!???”
Assistant Professor Saifuddin Ahmed of the university’s Department of Peace and Conflict Studies was appointed the proctor after the fall of the Awami League government in 2024. Shehreen of the Department of Public Administration was also appointed as deputy proctor at the time.
She was active on social media throughout her tenure. Her opinions on various topics stirred discussion and even criticism.
Shehreen, known as “Monami Ma’am” to her students, wrote: “Over the past 2 years, I have learned from Saifuddin Sir how a proctor should have superhuman endurance, how to tackle heated situations calmly and with a smile, and most of all, how to maintain one's self-respect.
Despite his power, he protected his students with forgiveness and compassion, and as his team members, we have tried to do the same, and are still trying.
I won’t go through what I have done in my tenure, or how much success I have attained. To be true, I don’t even know that.”
She wrote, “I only know that I have had an incredible experience with the leadership of an extraordinary person, with a wonderful team.”
“I don't know if a situation like it was in July and post July will ever come to this country again. Probably no other proctor and his team of Dhaka University have faced such a situation, probably never will.
Whatever....
It was an absolute honour to serve with my team and under the leadership of our Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed Sir.
Congratulations to our new proctor and his team. Wishing this team all the best in carrying out this significant responsibility."
