Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) detained actress Shomi Kaiser from the capital's Uttara area early Wednesday.
Deputy Police Commissioner of the Uttara Division, Rawnak Jahan, confirmed the arrest, according to a local media outlet report.
A defamation lawsuit of 1,000 million (100 crore) taka was filed on 14 October in the Magura Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against actress Shomi Kaiser for allegedly making derogatory remarks at various times about BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman.
Earlier on 9 October, a case was filed against the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Shomi Kaiser, former lawmaker Momtaz Begum, former minister and actress Tarana Halim, and 13 others for attempting to murder BNP activist, Syed Hasan Mahmud in June 2022.
Mahmud filed the case against Hasina and others with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Belal Hossain.
Rawnak stated that actress Shomi Kaiser, listed as an accused in the FIR, will be shown as arrested in the case.
