BOGURA, Nov 06: Growers of short-duration paddy variety in the district are delighted over the present market rate of their newly-harvested produce.

BINA-7 paddy is selling at Tk 900 to Tk 1,100 per maund in the local market.

Some 18,560 hectares of land were brought under the cultivation of the paddy in all the 12 upazilas of the district this season and produced over 14,000 tonnes of paddy so far.

Growers' sources said farmers are making some Tk 300 to Tk 500 profit from a maund of paddy.

"I have cultivated an early variety of paddy on two bighas of land spending Tk 13,000 and got some 30 maunds production," said Soleman Hossain of Adamdighi upazila.

He again said, "I have made a profit over Tk 20,000 from the produce", he added.

Sub-assistance agriculture officer of DAE Faridur Rahman said farmers of the short-duration paddy have achieved a good yield this season. The market price of the crops delights much the poor and grassroots farmers, he added.
