Six suffer burn injuries in Sitakunda steel mill accident

Six workers have been burned in an accident while melting iron at a steel mill in Chattogram’s Sitakunda.

Two of the workers were allowed to go home after receiving first aid, but the four others were sent to Dhaka for treatment, police said.

The accident occurred at the Shitalpur Auto Steel Mill early on Saturday, said Sitakunda Police Inspector Jabbarul Islam.

“Iron from old ships was melted down at the factory. The molten iron suddenly spilled and injured six workers.”

The police official said the six victims were taken to Chittagong Medical College (CMC) hospital for treatment.

They were identified as Reaz Hossain, 25, Mainuddin, 25, Mohammad Mia, 35, Amzad Hossain, 40, Shah Alam, 55 and Zakir Hossain, 32, reports bdnews24.com.

CMC Police Outpost officer-on-duty ASI Alauddin Talukdar said that four had been transferred to Dhaka because they were critically injured.

Shah Alam and Zakir Hossain were released from the hospital after receiving treatment, he added.
