A group of officials of Bangladesh Bank staged demonstrations demanding the resignations of the governor, four deputy governors, an adviser to the central bank and the chief of the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU).

The six officials were forced to leave their posts amid the unrest. Local news portals said Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder was not present at the central bank at that time.

More than two hundred officials joined the protests without any banners. They said these officials were responsible for irregularities and corruption in the banking sector.

Witnesses said two deputy governors, Kazi Saidur Rahman and Nurun Nahar, were forced to sign resignation letters on white papers. Then they left the central bank with the help of army officials.

Meanwhile, another two deputy governors, Md Khurshid Alam and Md Habibur Rahman, and BFIU chief Masud Biswas, and central bank adviser Abu Farah Md Naser were not present at the central bank. The protesting officials communicated with them through telephone. The four officials told the protesters they would not join the office again.
