Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, the daughter of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar, has demanded justice over the killing of her father before heading to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in Dhaka to file charges over the incident.
“I came to know that my father has been killed. I want justice for this,” Dorin told the media at the capital’s Detective Branch headquarters on Wednesday.
When asked if she knew someone among the three detained by police over the killing, Dorin said she did not know them but was interested in knowing why they had committed such a crime.
When asked if anyone is being suspected by her family, she said: “We are not suspecting anyone yet.”
Dorin is the younger of Anar’s two daughters. The elder daughter is a physician while Dorin is pursuing a law degree at a private university.
Dorin said she had a video call with her father for the last time when Anar told her that he would return from India within two days and take her to a dentist in Dhaka.
“I am an orphan now. I want those who killed my father to be tried, crucified or hanged. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is like my mother. She has been supporting us a lot, we seek justice from her,” the weeping daughter of the parliamentarian said.
Dorin said she rushed to seek assistance from DB chief Harun-or-Rashid as she wants to file a case because her father was reportedly killed at a home in Kolkata.
Later, the DB additional commissioner said, “Anar’s daughter came to us and wanted to lodge a case. We advised her to initiate the case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station as Dorin said her father left the capital’s MP Hostel, an area under the police station, before starting his journey to India.
“Police arrested several suspects over the incident. We are questioning them and trying to know the motive behind the murder. He was a popular MP, we are shocked like the residents of his constituency over the incident,” Harun said.
However, the DB officer did not comment on whether Anar’s body has been retrieved.
