Bangladesh's education boards are preparing to publish the results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams by the end of July.

Efforts are under way to release the results by Jul 25, authorities said.

Khondokar Ehsanul Kabir, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, told bdnews24.com on Wednesday that the results would be published in accordance with the tradition of releasing them within two months of the exams’ completion.

“The SSC practical exams concluded on May 25. Based on that, we expect to be able to publish the results by Jul 25."

SM Kamal Uddin Haider, the exam controller of the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, told bdnews24.com: “Although some chief examiners were initially reluctant to collect the exam scripts, most of them have now done so after we issued an official letter.

“Submission of the OMR (optical mark recognition) sheets has also begun. The final deadline for OMR sheet submission is Jun 15 and all sheets are expected to be submitted by then.”

The convenor of the Inter-Education Board Exam Controllers’ Committee added, “Once offices reopen, we will finalise the result publication date. Currently, scanning of OMR sheets and inputting of marks is in progress.”

The written portion of the SSC and equivalent exams was held from Apr 10 to May 13, while the practical exams concluded on May 25.

Around 1.92 million students had registered to take part in the exams, but more than 30,000 students were absent for one or more subjects.

Traditionally, SSC and equivalent exam results are published within two months (60 days) of completion. Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has already committed to maintaining this timeline.

"If this is the tradition - I'm sure it is - we'll try our best to publish (the results) accordingly," he said after visiting the Motijheel Government Boys High School exam centre on the first day of the tests.
