The Police Headquarters has issued a set of instructions to strengthen security at all police stations and establishments across the country, including Dhaka city.

It also asked for stronger security for arms and ammunition.

Under the instructions, each police station is required to establish at least three sentry posts.

It is also mandated that one of three designated inspectors be on duty overnight.

Officers-in-Charge (OCs) need permits from Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to leave the area under the jurisdiction of their stations.

Moreover, the Police Headquarters has provided guidance to all units on how to respond to any attacks on any police stations and related establishments.

It also instructed that police members do not accept any food from outsiders.

Sources at the Police Headquarters said that recent incidents of arms looting by Kuki Chin National Front terrorists prompted the issuance of such instructions.

An official at the Police Headquarters said that there was laxity in security at various police stations and establishments and it led to the new stringent security protocols.

When queried, DIG (Operations) at the Police Headquarters Anwar Hossain mentioned that all police units have been instructed to conduct alarm parades following the Bandarban arms looting incident.

It is part of the routine activity, though, he clarified.

Earlier on April 23, a circular issued by the Police Headquarters similarly instructed the strengthening of security at all Dhaka Metropolitan Police stations and establishments.

DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Faruk Hossain said although there is no specific threat, such instructions have been issued to keep all alert.
