Students of Government Science College have blocked roads in the Farmgate area to protest against illegal parking outside the institution, the reckless parking of various vehicles including auto rickshaws, and the death of a student in a road accident nearby.
Traffic was brought to a standstill from Bijoy Sarani to the Sonargaon intersection around 12pm on Thursday for half an hour as the students staged a blockade. The flow of traffic resumed after they cleared the road, reports bdnews24.com.
Tejgaon Traffic Department Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Islam told bdnews24.com that the college students initially came to the college gate and then gathered in the Farmgate area.
Due to their protest programme, traffic was halted from Bijoy Sarani to Sonargaon intersection.
A police officer on duty at the scene said the students were persuaded and moved to the side of the road.
“Though the students are still protesting, the traffic has returned to normal.”
