A Dhaka court has remanded Khadija Yasmin Bithi, daughter of top criminal Subrata Bain, to police custody for questioning in the murder case of Jubo Dal leader Arif for five days.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque issued the order following a hearing on Thursday, bdnews24.com reports.

Sub-Inspector Arif Reza of the Prosecution Department said that the court granted a five-day remand after hearing the investigation officer's seven-day remand application.

During the hearing, Bithi was presented to the court. Her legal counsel Badal Mia petitioned for the scrapping of the remand order, while state counsel Barrister Syed Golam Martuja Ibne Islam argued in support of the remand petition.

Bithi was arrested at the main entrance to the Cumilla Central Jail on Monday. On Tuesday, the investigating officer, Detective Branch Police Inspector Mazharul Islam, presented her in court and applied for a seven-day remand.

However, due to the lack of original documents in the case, the accused was sent to jail and a fresh hearing on the remand application was set for Thursday.

According to the case documents, on Apr 19, Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder was shot in front of “The Jheel Café” in Nayatola Morol Goli in Hatirjheel Thana. He was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and died on Apr 21 while undergoing treatment.

Arif once served as the deputy sports secretary of the Jubo Dal unit in Dhaka Metropolitan North’s Ward No. 36. After the attack, his sister Rima Akhter filed an “attempt to murder” case naming 10 people, including Subrata Bain's associate Mahfuzur Rahman Bipu, at Hatirjheel Police Station.

Later, when Arif died, the case was converted into a murder case. Subrata was arrested in the case and taken into custody for questioning.
