Political instability and three waves of flood appeared as a big blow to Sunamganj‘s tourism sector as the tourist destination saw a sharp drop in the number of visitors.

According to industry insiders, the local tour operators have suffered a loss of around Tk 500 million due to the political unrest, and three waves of flood.

One after another, advance bookings are cancelled, and the once-bustling establishments face unprecedented vacancies as people are reluctant to travel amid the situation.

According to officials of hotels and resorts in Sunamganj, the number of tourists has been reduced to zero.

As a result, the main tourist spots of the districts, including Tanguar Haor, Niladri Lakes, Lakma Chora, Jadukata River, and Shimul Bagan, are now largely deserted, report local news portals.
