Surgery activities at BSMMU Super Specialized Hospital start July 5

The internal department and surgery activities at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Super Specialized Hospital will start on July 5.

Minister of Health and Family Welfare Zahid Maleque and Vice-chancellor of BSMMU Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed will inaugurate the activities, according to a meeting decision of BSMMU on Monday.

On the first day, surgeons from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of General Surgery (Breast and Laparoscopic) and Arthroscopic Unit of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery will participate in this operation.

In December 2022, expert doctors of 14 departments, professors, associate professors and assistant professors started seeing patients in the super specialised hospital.

As of June 2023, a total of 17,700 patients have taken services since the launch of the hospital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had inaugurated the infrastructure of this hospital in September 2022.

Meanwhile, in that meeting, necessary instructions were given to the university's IT wing and related departments to ensure that the appointments of physicians or outdoor tickets for treatments are available online.

For the convenience of patients, there is a plan to give about 50 per cent of daily tickets to online appointments, especially with the aim of eliminating the suffering of patients and avoiding overcrowding.
