Suspected drug trader dies in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Satghoria Para in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 23, son of Shah Alam, a resident of Moheshkhaliapata in Howaikang union.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Model Police Station, said being tipped off that a group of drug traders would gather in the area, a team of police conducted a drive at around 4 am.

Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders opened fire, forcing them to fire back, triggering the gun-battle.

After the gunfight, police rescued Rahman who sustained bullet injuries and took him to Teknaf upazila health complex where doctors declared him dead, UNB reported citing the official.

Police also recovered 3,000 pieces of Yaba tablets, three rounds of cartridge and six rounds of bullet shells from the spot.
