Suspected thief beaten to death in Joypuhat

An elderly man was reportedly beaten to death by a mob in suspicion of theft attempt at Ghashuria village in the district headquarter on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Yasin Mia, 61, of Tajpur-Banpur area in the same upazila.

Inspector Md Maminul Haque of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station said locals caught Yasin along with equipment used to commit burglary and gave him a good beating branding himself as a thief.

Later, Yasin was taken to Joypurhat Modern District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the afternoon, said police, reports UNB.
