Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam, also a lawmaker elected from Kishoreganj-1 constituency, has taken a 90-day leave from the parliament.
Chief Whip ASM Feroz placed an application before Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on behalf of Syed Ashraful Islam to grant leave for the next 90 sittings of Parliament from Tuesday, reports UNB.
The Speaker read out the application before the House after Maghrib recess. Later, the House granted his leave by a voice vote.
According to the application, Syed Ashraful Islam is now undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Medicine Unit of Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok.
He underwent a surgery on Monday last and he needs to stay there for many more days to receive treatment.
Dr Shirin said there were instances of granting leave for some lawmakers in different parliaments avoiding controversy.
