Syed Manzur Elahi re-elected EWU BoT chairperson

Eminent industrialist Syed Manzur Elahi has been re-elected chairperson of the Board of Trustees of East West University (EWU) for the next two years, says a statement.

The decision was made at a recent meeting of the university's Board of Trustees (BoT), chaired by the founding board president, Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin.

Founder and chairman of Apex Group, Syed Manzur Elahi is known as the pioneer of the country's footwear industry.

He is also the chairman of Mutual Trust Bank.

Besides, he served twice as adviser to the caretaker government of Bangladesh in 1996 and 2001 with a reputation for his professionalism, impartiality and leadership qualities.

He was the key organiser and founding treasurer when the EWU was established.

Syed Manzur Elahi holds a post-graduate degree in economics from Dhaka University. He has served as the chairman of the Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), the president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), and the president of the Dhaka University Alumni Association.

He also performed responsibilities as directors of Bangladesh Bank, Sonali Bank and Bangladesh Krishi Bank.

Syed Manzur Elahi received the "Business Executive of the Year 2000" award from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), Bangladesh, and the "Life Time Achievement Award" by the 21st DHL-Daily Star Bangladesh Business Awards in 2023.
