Flight operations at Nilphamari's Syedpur airport have returned to normal after a six-hour disruption caused by thick fog.

Flights resumed normally at 3:30 pm, local media reported.

Starting at 9:30 am, no flights were able to take off or land at the airport, affecting more than 400 Dhaka-bound passengers, including children and elderly people.

A total of seven flights operated by Biman Bangladesh, US-Bangla, and NovoAir were affected by the inclement weather during that time.

According to the Airport Meteorological Office, Nilphamari recorded the country's lowest temperature today at 9 degrees Celsius.

A gentle cold current affected the region, including Nilphamari, severely reducing visibility, it said.

At 12 noon, visibility was only 200 metres, and it improved to 1000 metres by 2:30 pm. This dense fog led to the flight schedule disruption, according to the Met Office.

An on-duty officer at the Airport Meteorological Office, Lokman Hossain said thick fog had enveloped the airport area since midnight.

It started to clear around 3pm, and once the required visibility limit for flight movement was reached, the relevant authorities were promptly informed, he added.

An assistant manager of Syedpur Airport, Mojibor Rahman said that by 3:30 PM, flight operations returned to normal with the landing of four flights from three airline companies, including Biman Bangladesh.

He confirmed that despite the schedule disruptions caused by the fog, no flights were cancelled.
