Sylhet businesses threaten movement unless power crisis ends in 48 hours

Businesspeople in Sylhet have threatened to go for movement if the power crisis in the district is not resolved in the next 48 hours.

Bangladesh Dokan Malik Shamity, Sylhet, Sylhet Metropolitan and District Businessmen Oikkya Kalyan Parishad said this in a joint statement on Monday.

According to the statement, the local businesses are facing severe losses due to excessive load shedding in Sylhet in every half an hour.

Due to the frequent load-shedding, shoppers avoid going to markets, leading to reduced sales every day.

The statement said the authorities are failing to meet the demand for 700 MW electricity in the division. is not being met in the entire division.

If the power problem in Sylhet is not resolved immediately, the businesses will go for movement unitedly. The power office will be gheraoed if needed, said the statement.

Load shedding has been increasing across the country as power generation from gas-based stations is still below the expected level.
