Tarique Rahman, acting chairman of the BNP, has driven his mother, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to his home in London after her release from the hospital.
Khaleda went to Tarique’s home from The London Clinic after she received her release papers at 9:30pm on Friday local time (3pm Bangladesh time), according to her personal physician AZM Zahid Hossain.
He said, "Alhamdulillah, the London Clinic has allowed Madam to leave. Now she has gone to the house of our party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman."
"She will be under the care of Prof John Patrick Kennedy and Prof Jennifer Cross at The London Clinic. We, who are Madam's doctors, will also be engaged in caring for her around the clock. Her treatment will continue at home according to the rules and regulations of the UK. All arrangements have been made at home."
Zahid said that the medical board at The London Clinic, which is headed by Kennedy and features specialists from John Hopkins University in the US, have given her a discharge certificate after reviewing all the medical tests on the BNP chairperson. However, she will still be under the care of Kennedy and Cross at The London Clinic.
Khaleda left The London Clinic after 9pm local time and got into Tarique's car. Tarique drove himself while his wife Zubaida Rahman was in the front seat.
Upon reaching home, Khaleda was welcomed by Tarique's daughter Zaima Rahman, Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman - the two daughters of her son the late Arafat Rahman Coco - and their mother Syeda Sharmila Rahman.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was admitted to The London Clinic on Jan 8. The day before, she had landed at London's Heathrow International Airport from Dhaka on board royal special ambulance sent by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. From there, Khaleda was taken directly to The London Clinic.
The 79-year-old former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has been suffering from various physical ailments including liver cirrhosis, kidney, heart, diabetes and arthritis for a long time.
