SYLHET, Oct 13: A task force evicted on Saturday over 50 stone crushers set on the land belonging to the Forest Department under Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet.

Besides, the structures were demolished and about 4000 cft stones, kept on the site were seized during the drive, officials informed.

Executive magistrate Md Jahangir Alam of the Sylhet district collectorate led the drive on the Forest Department's Greenpark site, Kanaijuri and Rahmatpur areas to evict the illegal structures.

Some influential people occupied the land and set the stone crusher machines illegally and ran their business for long.

Years ago such a task force came under a sudden attack by the labourers and their men in presence of BGB and police during a drive. The owners managed setting up the illegal crushers again in the recent years.

Gowainghat Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biswajit Kumar Paul, Officer In-charge (Investigation) Hillol Roy, BGB Company commander Humayun Ahmed and Forest Department's Beat Officer Saad Uddin were present on the occasion.
